The Government is to discuss a complete strategy for the development of Terem military works, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev told journalists on Friday.

Stanishev met the management of the local Khan Kroum military repair plant and visited some of the production workshops. According to him, Terem is closely related to the development of
the Bulgarian defence industry and is one of the hi-tech companies.

The Prime Minister discussed with both the plant management and the management of whole company the status and development prospects of the works.

After getting acquainted with the concrete production, Stanishev said that 10 armoured personnel carriers for the Bulgarian Army are being currently upgraded by Khan Kroum Plant and that a decision was made further six carriers for the army to be upgraded. This will guarantee the stability of the plant for a certain period of time, he added.

According to him, the Interior Ministry has made a decision to order the upgrading of further 30 to 40 armoured carriers for the needs of the gendarmery.

There are other sources for maintaining the development of the plant, Stanishev added. According to him, armoured carriers upgrading will continue as well as the modernization of other heavy machines to meet the needs of both the Bulgarian Army and the Civil Protection Service.

There is a pronounced interest from foreign partners to use this technological potential as well. He thanked Terem employees and management that they have preserved this potential so that they can further develop it now.
