Varna and Plovdiv each have 16 companies listed in the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, Profit.bg found out.

The capital city Sofia tops the chart with a total of 159 public companies. The list does not include bond issuers and mutual funds.

Stara Zagora has 9 listed companies, there are 6 in Pazardjik and 5 in Ruse. Burgas and Veliko Tarnovo both have 4.

According to BSE's official statistics there are 383 public companies in Bulgaria as at end of April 2007 (not counting mutual funds) with a total market value of some 23.4 billion leva (11.9 mln euros).
