President Purvanov Participates in EU Lisbon Informal Summit Today and Tomorrow
President Georgi Purvanov will take part in the European Union Lisbon Informal Summit on October 18 and 19. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin is also on the delegation.
The head of state arrives in the Portuguese capital from Paris, where he participated in the 34th session of the UNESCO General Conference.
The informal Summit will address two crucial issues: the Reform Treaty and Europe's response to globalization. It is expected to approve the text of the Reform Treaty, which should substitute the previous project for a European constitution, rejected at referendums in France and the Netherlands in 2005.
For Bulgaria, the summit is yet another opportunity to present its position on the transliteration of the common European currency in Bulgarian, the subject of some controversy over the past two weeks.
