Florin Gavrilă, an investor lured by the high stock exchange returns ever since the early days of the market, is shattering the myth according to which the bourse is a means of making money from speculation, in an interview with ZF in the "Bourse investors" series.

At the age of 43, Gavrilă has managed to amass a fortune of 350,000 euros from Bourse investments, after having entered the market in late 1998 with 10,000 dollars, and says that when the market peaked, in the summer of 2007, he held a portfolio valued at 1.2m euros.

He benefited from SIF's spikes after 2000, when yields in certain years got beyond even 100%.

"In my opinion, making money from speculation is just a story. You may catch a period in your life when you're very lucky, but on the long term this is not an option. In the 13 years I've been making investments, I've learnt the bourse is governed by greed and fear, the main factors that are moving it. I've also learnt a good company will be good irrespective of the economic picture and that I must not speculate," says Florin Gavrilă.
