Bulgaria may begin exporting electricity to Turkey as of October 24 upon the completion of the synchronization of the Turkish and the European energy systems, including the Bulgarian one. An agreement to this end was reached by Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister Traicho Traikov and his Turkish counterpart Taner Yildiz, who is a part of a Turkish governmental delegation paying a one-day visit here, Traikov's Ministry said.

According to the estimates of the National Electric Company, Bulgaria may export to Turkey about 150 megawatts of electricity in November-December and up to 500 megawatts as of the beginning of 2011. NEK is about to announce a bidding for the export of electricity on the Turkish market. The bidders should possess licences for the export of electricity from Bulgaria and for trade in electricity on the Turkish market. Twelve companies have shown interest so far.

The two talked about the building of an intersystem gas connection between Bulgaria and Turkey and the country's proposal to include it within the Nabucco project.
