A joint expert mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission for a review of the economic situation in Bulgaria started here on Thursday, the Finance Ministry said.

During the visit, the IMF team, led by IMF Mission Leader for Bulgaria Bas Bakker, will hold meetings with officials from the Finance Ministry and the Bulgarian National Bank.

The visit is at the invitation of the Bulgarian Government and its purpose is to make an expert assessment of the financial and economic measures taken in the last six weeks and of the macroeconomic and fiscal policy of the Government for 2010.

The mission of the IMF and the European Commission will continue until September 21.
