The Union of Brewers in Bulgaria announced Friday that it is launching an information campaign targeting Bulgarian beer. The initiative is a first in this country, its aim being to acquaint consumers with the high quality and natural ingredients of the brew made here.

"In addition to informing consumers about the quality of Bulgarian brew, the task we have set ourselves with this campaign is to educate them in respect to the rich and centuries-old history of this drink in Bulgaria and thus create a real culture of consumption," the Chairman of the union Vladimir Ivanov said.

The campaign of the Union of Brewers will reveal some of the rich traditions and customs of drinking beer. A Bulgarian Beer Society will be established, uniting famous names, specialists, beer industry representatives and all fans of the favourite drink.

Planned surveys of attitudes and habits of beer lovers in Bulgaria will be held and art circles will face the challenge of designing a national Bulgarian tankard.

A special event called "Beer Night" will be held in the summer, on St. Elijah's Day, when brewers in this country celebrate the patron saint of brewers.
