The Romanian electronic communication and postal services market increased by 16.7 percent last year, up to €4.61 billion, compared to €3.95 billion in 2006, according to the National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology (ANRCTI).

The first 20 electronic communication suppliers posted sales worth a total €4.27 billion in 2007, 18.1 percent higher year-on-year, BusinessStandard.ro reports.

“We can see a substantial increase of the communication market, generated by internet and data revenues from services, which increased by some 31 percent, but also by mobile phone and mobile data services, which increased by 11 percent,” said ANRCTI President, Liviu Nistoran.
Nistoran said the market’s Real value will be known in 2008, because increasingly more suppliers report incomes from network supplying operations or electronic communication, instead of total turnover, as they did until 2006.

Representatives of the second largest mobile services operator locally, Vodafone, estimate an increase of clients and technologies, such as broadband mobile data and mobile internet services. The market leader on the mobile services segment, Orange, and Vodafone were the most important electronic communications operators in terms of turnover, while operators Cosmote, RCS&RDS and UPC registered the most spectacular turnover increases.
